Vehicle Managed

Filed under: ALA, Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 10:29 am

Yay, I can now trim some (but not much) monay off my MidWinter and Annual trips - I’ve successfully reserved a University vehicle for my trips to the hairport (MW) and DC (Annual).

So, if I sleep in the car and shower at the YMCA I might almost be able to afford Annual; is there anyone looking for a massive roomshare, similar to the ones in San Antonio & NOLA?

Ephemeral summary

Filed under: Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 4:06 pm
  • Crunched and graphed a bunch of IPEDS data
  • Filled in our SerialSolutions Article linker preliminary profile datasheet and sent it in (thanks for all the great help, Kirk)
  • Tried to reserve a univeristy vehicle for a conference trip (to LITA in Nashville)
    • Am 2nd in queue
  • Color printing process ironed out - still need to draft policies

That’s it, I’m outta here for the weekend :)

On hyphens, or lack thereof

Filed under: Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 5:02 pm

I noticed I wondered if I was a bit a-r a few days (er… weeks) ago. Turns out I’m not all that much. I’ve already forgotten to update my activity list for tenure document.

Yay, I’m normal!

Now I just have to figure out what I did minute-by-minute yesterday and write it in…

Five years ago today

Filed under: Miscellaneous — AaronTheLibrarian @ 11:25 am

What were you doing five years ago today? I know what I was doing and where I was…

Sitting at my desk, ‘getting things done’ when I heard a colleague exclaim OMG! The twin towers are burning. Naturally, I assumed it was a joke and ignored it. Then…

The same colleague came in and said, to me, the twin towers are burning — check for a video feed! So I did, and we tuned in; just in time to see the reruns of the planes whack into each tower.
At first I thought, wow, great special effects. Someone really did a number on this early or late April Fools prank. Then the towers came down, live, on camera. That’s when it hit home for me.
I have friends that were within 1 block (working at the American Stock Exchange), 3 blocks (they lived and still live in the same apartment), and in mid-town / Chelsea. They wrote their stories of that day up and I posted thenm here.

I guess I asked for it…

Filed under: Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 7:39 pm

Accidentally got tasks assigned to me today :)

  • I’m to work up a plan to redistribute the ~36 workstations in the computer lab around the building to accomodate the lad room being turned into a class room for 1.5 to 2 years while another building on campus is renovated.
  • I’m to get the IPEDS data for our network of schools and our asperational peers for a Peer Data project (oy, most current data is >2 years old)
  • I may be made an assistant in our LibQual+ reporting system to help gather and enter our data
  • Publish or perish:
    • Possible opportuinity to write up a history of the library at the university for public consumptin as well as a more detailed version to publish.
      • Institutional memory is personified all the way back to ~1968 (how’s that for a local resource?)
    • Now I just need to find the time to do the research (and still keep some sort of family life going)
  • Work up a printing policy for the color printer (heck, all printing apparently)

Good thing I’m not busy with other stuff already (hahahah!)

Access managed

Filed under: Librarianshp, Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 12:27 pm

Ah, more good stuff on the network presmissions front…

I now have access to our shared network drive, took a lot of today to meader through to see what’s out there. Lots of stuff, though about half looks a bit dated (which is okay, since there is new stuff too).

Not much in my baliwick, but I do note that I don’t really understand teh organization schema. Okay, I note “Data” folder is more structured. Hrm… this will take a while to absorb. (on top of all the other stuff I’m doing or will be doing - good thing I’m not busy (hah!))

Big wheels just keep on rollin’

Filed under: Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 4:20 pm

Oi, don’t feel that I accomplished much of anything of great importance today. Just spinning wheels and their breathing smoke.

One bright note, found the university’s paperwork site for requesting travel monay for conference and workshop fun. Les’see, I want to go to 5 conferences and 7 workshops - I hope this is a well funded fund.

Where have all my [network] rights gone?

Filed under: Work — AaronTheLibrarian @ 10:11 pm

Gone, long time missing. Just 1 quick gripe, thanks for the indulgence.

I totally miss my network god-like rights from M[former]POW. Ran into a problem with network based printing tonight and knew how to short-term fix it, but I’m just an end-user now. No more swooping in, pausing (abandoned) jobs to free the flow of paper through the printer. *Sigh* I’ll just have to be happy that fewer trees got pulped during my shift tonight.
