What I get out of ALA-- CV padding. My job is a grant-funded limited duration position. My second Master's degree I got out of intellectual curiosity, but I'm convinced this and my extracurriculars are the only reasons I currently have a job. (Yes, living in Portland has something to do with this--there are several distance programs with cohorts in this town and people somehow see this town as a haven, despite the fact that library jobs here are ultra competitive.)

I am involved on an ALAWO subcommittee. This is fulfilling and I learn a lot.
